Driftwood Door Pulls

×

Artist Crista Smyth specializes in custom driftwood door pulls which she has been crafting since 2006. Every door pull is one-of-a-kind and made to your length specifications. The driftwood is collected by the artist on California beaches and meticulously sanded and finished to a smooth silky feel. Solid stainless steel hardware ensures that your door pull is as strong as it is beautiful.

Door pulls can be made to be installed on one side of a door, or in pairs on either side of a door. These door pulls are heavy duty and intended for full sized doors. If you're interested in driftwood pulls for your cabinets or drawers please visit our cabinet pull gallery for more information.

You will have the opportunity to choose the specific piece of driftwood you would like the artist to use for your door pull.

The driftwood door pulls pictured in this gallery are from previous customers and are provided for your inspiration. Every door pull is unique and will differ in appearance--there will be nobody in the world with a door pull like yours!

Driftwood door pulls are priced by length at $10/inch with a $120 minimum. Shipping and handling charges are added to your total. Door pull pairs that install on either side of a single door have a $50 per pair surcharge for the artist's added labor involved in engineering this configuration. Customers in California will be charged sales tax.

For orders $300 and under, full payment is due before the artist begins work on your custom order. For orders above $300 a non-refundable 50% deposit is due to begin work, with the final 50% plus shipping and handling collected after the artist sends you photos of your completed order.

After your initial payment, photos of candidate raw driftwood pieces will be sent so that you can choose which unique piece of driftwood you would like the artist to use in crafting your door pull.

Returns and exchanges are not accepted for custom made items.

Every nook and cranny of the raw driftwood is meticulously sanded and then lovingly finished to a soft and silky touch. A clear, low-gloss, oil-based varnish is rubbed in to bring out the unique coloring of the grain. Finishes are available for both indoor and outdoor use. Please do not request an unfinished door pull: driftwood is very thirsty and if not finished will soak up dirt and oils from handling that are impossible to remove.

The driftwood is the natural color of the wood after thorough sanding and the clear finish is applied. The wood is never stained as driftwood absorbs stain unevenly and stain looks unnatural on driftwood.

Raw driftwood is initially silverish because it gets bleached by the sun while laying on the beach. This light patina is very thin and is removed when the driftwood is sanded, revealing the natural wood tone. The artist's ability to satisfy color requests is very limited since every piece of driftwood is one-of-a-kind and the final color isn't revealed until the first coat of finish is applied.

To give you an idea of final color, when photos are sent of the raw driftwood pieces to choose from the artist will sand off a patch on each piece and wet it to estimate the final color. This is only an estimate since other colors along the piece's length may be revealed during sanding and finishing. The artist encourages her customers to embrace the unique color and grain of their driftwood door pull.
